Parenting by The Lighthouse

While waiting to adopt I used to listen to gospel cassettes.  A song, The Lighthouse (partially quoted below) was a favorite of mine.  In the middle of Billy Ray's health crisis 17 years later the Lord used that song to show me he would be my guide relative to my son's care and my life in general.  I didn't know much about lighthouses though I was born in the Pacific Coast area.  The more I learned about lighthouses the more I was able to see the comparison between the old ship's captain who had to stay focused on the light for their very survival and parents of complex children who need the light (guidance) that Jesus as our Lighthouse offers.  The Lighthouse Concept is explained in greater detail on my website www.lighthouseparents.com.  Click on Lighthouse Concept above to go to that page and the site name to see the whole site.
The Lighthouse
Words and Music by Ronnie Hinson

There’s a lighthouse on a hillside that overlooks life’s sea.
When I’m tossed it sends out a light, a light that I might see;
And the lighthouse that sits in darkness will safely lead me o’er,
If it wasn’t for the lighthouse my ship would sail no more.

Chorus:

And I thank God for the lighthouse I owe my life to Him,
For Jesus is the lighthouse, and from the rock of sin;
He has shone a light around me that I could clearly see,
If it wasn’t for the lighthouse where would this ship be?
